As Jesus sent out his disciples, he gave them two missions: to preach the Gospel and to heal the sick. Health Ministry reclaims this tradition of healing within the church. Our guiding mission for this ministry is to “make connections”, linking people in need to members of our congregation who can be a friend and be of service.
The mission of the Parish Nurse Ministry at Christ Lutheran Church is to seek and promote the healing ministry of Jesus Christ in our Church. This is done by supporting and serving members as they work toward health and wholeness in body, soul and spirit. The Parish Nurse is there to enhance, complement and support the care you receive from your health care provider, pastors and family. The Parish Nurse works closely with the Health Ministry Team to serve the congregation and its members.
The Health Ministry Team at Christ Lutheran Church guides and supports the health and healing ministry that serves individuals and families as they work toward wellness and wholeness. They help the Parish Nurse promote health and safety of individuals, families, the congregation and the community. It is made up of members who have been in health related occupations. Each member has unique skills to serve the members of Christ Lutheran in the area of health and safety. Health Ministry holds the spiritual dimension of health to be central to its practice.

The Parish Nurse:
- Offers support to individuals and families who have health concerns or life changes.
- Offers support to individuals who are in care giving roles.
- Encourages safety and healthy living in the congregation and individuals.
- Offers presence and prayer during visits, especially in times of crisis, but also in times of celebration.
- May coordinate group sessions, screenings such as blood pressure, or education related to health concerns.
- Respects confidentiality in all interactions.
The Parish Nurse Does NOT:
- Replace public health or home care nurses
- Replace pastoral care
- Provide “hands-on” or invasive nursing actions or procedures
- Give advice on medical issues or decisions
- Administer medications
